Privacy Policy
This policy explains what UK Unlocked collects and what we do with it. It describes the site as it currently works.
Accounts and authentication
You can browse UK Unlocked without an account. To save anything you create a free account with an email address and password. Accounts and sign-in are handled by our hosted backend provider, which stores your email address, an encrypted password credential, and timestamps such as when the account was created and last signed in. We never see your password. If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive the basic profile information Google returns (such as your email address and display name).
Your travel record
When you mark an attraction we store which attraction it was, the status you chose — Visited, Interested in, Planned or Want to revisit — and when you set it, linked to your account. Any notes, ratings or reviews you add are stored the same way. This is the data that powers your personal map, your statistics and your recommendations.
Journeys and itineraries
Journeys you plan and save — start and end points, dates or day counts, interests, pace and the stops in each itinerary — are stored against your account so you can return to them. Unsaved planning done while signed out is not stored on our servers and is lost when you leave or refresh the page.
Contact form
When you send a message through the contact form we store the name, email address, optional subject and message you provide, plus technical details recorded automatically with the submission: the page you sent it from, your browser user agent, the referring page if there was one, your browser language and timezone, your screen size, and the time of submission. We use this to reply to you, to spot spam and to understand how the site is being used. Please do not send information you do not have permission to share, including other people's personal details or confidential material.
Photographs you submit
Photographs offered for a place are reviewed by an administrator before anything is published. We store the image, the place it relates to, the credit information you give us, and — where you were signed in — the account that submitted it. Photograph files may contain embedded camera metadata; do not submit an image if you would rather that information were not shared with us. Approved photographs appear publicly on the site with any required credit.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, measurement ID G-K6WYC75NGW, to see which pages are visited and how people move through the site. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and receives information such as the page address, page title, referring page, approximate location derived from your IP address, and details about your device and browser. Google processes this data as our analytics provider. We do not run advertising or remarketing tags. See the Cookie Policy for the specific storage used.
Cookies and browser storage
We use browser storage to keep you signed in, and short-lived session storage to remember an action you started before signing in — for example a status you chose on an attraction — so it can be applied once you are signed in. Full detail is in the Cookie Policy.
How your information is used
We use what we collect to run your account, keep your travel record and journeys, tailor recommendations to you, review submitted photographs, reply to messages, and understand overall site usage. We do not sell your information and we do not send marketing email unless you have asked us to.
Storage and access
Your data is held in our hosted database and file storage, and reached over encrypted connections. Access is limited to the site administrators and to the service providers that run the site's hosting, database, authentication, analytics and payment infrastructure on our behalf. We keep account, travel record and journey data for as long as your account exists, and contact messages and photograph submissions for as long as we need them to handle the request and keep a record of what was published.
Your choices
You can change or clear any status in your travel record, delete journeys you have saved, and block or delete cookies and site storage in your browser — blocking sign-in storage will mean you cannot stay signed in. If you want a copy of the information held about you, a correction, a photograph taken down, or your account and its data deleted, ask us through the contact page and we will deal with it.
Children
UK Unlocked is intended for adults. Please do not create an account or submit content if you are under 13.
Changes
As the site changes this policy will change with it. The version on this page is the current one.
