Photographer Guidelines
Plenty of places in our directory are still waiting for a good photograph. If you have one, we would like to see it — here is what we need and what happens next.
Rights you must hold
You must be the photographer, or hold the necessary rights and permission to let us publish the image. Please do not send photographs found online, taken from social media, or copied from an attraction's own website or marketing material. Where a location restricts photography or commercial use, make sure you have the permission the site requires.
What we look for
- Accurate: unmistakably the attraction named, not a similarly named place.
- No prominent people or identifiable faces in the frame.
- Sharp, well exposed, landscape orientation where possible, and reasonably large.
- No watermarks, logos, borders, date stamps or heavy filters.
- Recent enough to represent the place as it looks now.
Credit
Tell us the name you want credited and, if you have one, a link. Published photographs carry that credit as a caption alongside the image. Also tell us the attraction name and roughly where and when the photograph was taken so we can check it is the right place.
The licence you grant
You keep the copyright in your photograph. UK Unlocked does not take ownership of it. By offering it for publication you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, resize, crop and display it on UK Unlocked and in related promotion of the site, with your credit. If you later want it removed, ask us and we will take it down.
Review and approval
Every photograph is reviewed by an administrator before it appears. Submission does not guarantee publication. We may decline anything that is unsuitable, inaccurate, low quality, features people prominently, or where the rights are unclear, and we may remove a published photograph later for the same reasons. We cannot promise a reply to every submission.
How to submit
Submissions and questions go through the contact page. Name the attraction, describe the photograph and how you would like to be credited, and we will come back to you about sending the file. The same route is used by the "Calling all photographers!" cards you will see on places that have no image yet.
Please also read the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy, which cover submitted content and the information we store with it.
